There are many talented and accomplished black female volleyball players. Here are some notable players:
Flo Hyman: Hyman was a trailblazer for black volleyball players. She played for the US national team in the 1980s and was a silver medalist in the 1984 Olympics. Hyman passed away in 1986 during a match in Japan.
Misty May-Treanor: May-Treanor is one of the most successful volleyball players in history. She won three Olympic gold medals (in 2004, 2008, and 2012) and won numerous other international competitions. May-Treanor is of African-American and Cuban descent.
Foluke Akinradewo: Akinradewo is a middle blocker for the US national team. She has won two Olympic silver medals (in 2012 and 2016) and has been named to numerous all-star teams. Akinradewo is of Nigerian descent.
Danielle Scott-Arruda: Scott-Arruda is a retired middle blocker who played in five Olympics for the US national team. She won two silver medals and a bronze medal and was the first American volleyball player to compete in five Olympics. Scott-Arruda is of African-American and Native American descent.
Alisha Glass: Glass is a setter for the US national team. She has won two Olympic medals (a silver medal in 2012 and a bronze medal in 2016) and has been named to multiple all-star teams. Glass is of African-American and Puerto Rican descent.
